Globalization has brought people all over the world closer. Contemporary designers have been thinking the issue of how to retain differentiation in regional cultural characteristics under the trend of universal design for a long time. Taiwanese designers have intended to introduce Taiwanese design to Europe through exposure at international conferences and exhibitions. They have hoped that by conducting the dialogue between modern thinking and design features of different countries, unique cultural value will be created. It is believed that this will not only take into account the development and sustainability of local culture, but also build up new horizons as well as fun with creativity by breaking away from barriers of modernism. The future will see a new era truly witnessing synchronous development of globalization and regional features.
Taiwan has always promoted Taiwan aesthetics. It intends to actively display the spiritual aspects of Taiwanese society, commerce, and culture. This year will be the third time for Taiwan to take part in Maison & Objet Paris. Compared with its attendance for the previous two times, this year’s exhibits at the Taiwanese pavilion of the said exhibition will show an even more mature and diversified style of design. Taiwanese designers has sought every design possibility with such materials as ceramics, bamboo, dyed cloth, paper, plastics, and LED. As a result these works have demonstrated a unique style crossing time and space and integrating Oriental and Western characteristics. They are embodiment of plainness, polished texture, exquisiteness, elegance, pureness, and flamboyance. They have truthfully conveyed the diversified style as well as aesthetics of a new generation of Taiwanese design. This time people living in Europe will have a rare opportunity to learn about fine taste of living of their counterpart in Taiwan.
This year the Taiwanese pavilion of the exhibition will be divided into the following two sections:
a. Section on “New Cultural and Creative Living" - In this section a series of products developed based on creative elements of Taiwanese design will be displayed. After going through a process of reflection and root-searching, Taiwanese designers have sought creative inspiration and style from traditional materials and they are backed by their own cultural experiences. They nevertheless have instilled modern ideas in their works in order to present the contemporary spirit.
b. Section on “the Great Future of Design” - In this section, fine Taiwanese products of design, including fashionable and environment-friendly LED lamps, tea set and tableware with Oriental flavor, practical creative stationery and 3C products packed with fun, and ornaments with Taiwanese natural and humanistic flavors, will be exhibited. Here you will learn more about Taiwanese lifestyle, which is much like a concerto integrating high-tech and nature, and meeting tradition as well as modernity.
The glamorous new generation of Taiwanese design is carrying local humanistic and cultural flavors. It also conveys rich and diversified fun of living of a nation full of marine resources. This will be attested from sighs of “Oh la là” by visitors of the said pavilion. We welcome your visit and expect you to personally savor these unique flavors. |
